I have a few more finals on Tuesday and graduation on Saturday.

It’s all rather surreal. My brain keeps going back and forth between “no way!” and “I actually fucking did it!”

That or I just haven’t figured out my generation’s rules on spending time with other people. 

Probably both. 

When I make plans with people, they are a definite thing, at least in my mind. I was raised to believe that blowing someone off is unacceptable behavior, and that you always RSVP,  and to check in with the people with whom you have plans before you go to meet them for said plans.

But it would seem that a lot of people my age don’t really adhere to these rules. Not that I’ve gotten outright stood up, at least, not regularly. But things come up or people take accidental naps or plans change or what have you. I don’t know. Personally, I feel like these are flimsy excuses and that changing plans or needing to bail at the last minute (excepting emergencies) basically says, “you aren’t that important.”

But in the past, when I’ve gotten upset about a last minute change in plans, or being bailed on, I’ve had people tell me that I’m overreacting. That I have no right to feel offended. So I’ve been working on just accepting it, and making other plans, and moving forward with my day. 

So today left me utterly baffled and feeling like a crappy friend. Early on in the day I made dinner plans with a friend. I texted to confirm said plans about 30 minutes before the scheduled meeting time. When, 20 minutes and a few more texts and IMs later, I still had not heard anything back, I simply assumed that the friend in question (having mentioned not feeling well and being tired) had fallen asleep. This has happened before. So, rather than get upset about it, and knowing that if we weren’t going to leave soon, Mira was going to be too hungry, I made dinner. No big deal. 

Fast-forward another 20 minutes (ten minutes after the planned time to meet-up), and I get a message from my friend explaining that they had been busy, with a legitimate reason to be away from their phone. I explain that I’ve gone ahead and had dinner, and do you still want to meet up? The result is a friend who is (probably rightly) exasperated with me, and now I feel like and ass. And apologizing isn’t making things better. Way to go, me. 

Can someone please explain to me what exactly is the proper protocol here? Because I’m truly and honestly lost. 

recording pod fics and all. Would you all be interested in me recording some children’s books?

Because life is so much simpler when the answer is 42 and you know where your towel is.
